Job Description

Member of a team of engineers responsible for Charter’s advanced digital video products, services and technology. The individual will be a key contributor to the development and deployment of digital video platforms such as tru2way, Digital Simulcast and Switched Digital Video. Core architecture design and direction for emerging ETV, Advanced Advertising and IPTV platforms. This position will be responsible for design and integration of multiple vendor products into Charter’s HFC network. Hands on work in a lab or cable system environment are required to validate network designs and configurations before service deployment. Participation in industry working groups and technical forum related to technology development and standards. The individual will also support vendors with product and service requirements based on Charter business needs and internal customer requests. The position requires strong project management skills and working knowledge of advanced digital cable architectures including emerging ETV and IPTV platforms.

 

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Responsible for engineering activities that maintain and enhance the company's telecommunications and signal processing hardware, software and electrical systems. Works closely with technical operations staff on system design and configuration. Recognized as the technical and design expert. Leads design teams and advises team leaders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots systems in assigned areas

Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary

Tests and reviews system designs

Provides a high level of Engineering Technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met

Mentors and guides the work of senior technical staff

Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
10 years of engineering  work experience
10 years of project management experience

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION & LICENSES:
Masters or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience

Technical Competencies: The candidate should display advanced technical competency in the following areas: Cable and telecommunications products and services Advanced digital video services such as VOD, Switched Video, HDTV, and ETV Network design, architecture, protocols and topologies for digital video systems Digital cable headend equipment Digital set top hardware, software and applications Related industry specifications and standards: Tru2way, DSG, DOCSIS, MPEG, SCTE, DVB, eTV, DLNA Web Service protocols and programming environments; JAVA, HTML, SOAP, XML, Unix, Linux IP routing and transport protocols Digital service authorization and provisioning systems Education: BSEE or equivalent experience Related Work Experience: Design and System Engineering; 10+ years Software Systems Engineering; 5+ years Project Management Experience; 4+ years
