Walt Disney Animation Studios, an industry leader in the creation of feature length animation, is seeking Technical Directors for current and upcoming film projects at our Burbank, CA studio. As a Technical Director at WDAS you will be part of a team that creates the fantastic worlds of animated entertainment.

As a Technical Director you’ll strategize solutions to a range of production issues. Responsibilities include implementing scripts to adapt tools into workflows and procedures that support artistic endeavors. You will maintain existing systems as well as contribute to feature enhancement.

You will work directly with artists to solve problems and implement new techniques as well as liaise with the Software Group and consult on the design of new large-scale packages used to create Computer Graphic Animation.

Core Characteristics:

·         Problem solving using visibly logical processes to solve difficult technological issues with robust easy to maintain code

·         Ability to “think through” a solution from beginning to end demonstrating both an instinct for an effective solution and sound analysis to prove fitness of that solution

·         Looks beyond the obvious to new and novel ideas in implementing workflows by either creation of new tools or re-purposing existing ones in new ways

·         Ability to communicate idea and plan in a cogent and effective manner to both artistic and technical staff creating buy-in on proposed actions.

·         Work effectively in a team environment sometimes establishing goals, sometimes following goals that others establish

·         Posses a strong sense of initiative and be fueled by finding solutions to complex problems in a fast paced environment

Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other analytical science, or equivalent work experience
• Demonstrated skill in complex problem solving using a scripting language, preferably Python and/or MEL
• Knowledge of the UNIX/Linux platforms
• Knowledge of CG production packages such as Maya, Houdini or Renderman a plus
