Assistant Director, Art Direction

Purdue University’s Office of Marketing and Media seeks seasoned professionals to fill the position of Assistant Director, Art Direction. Marketing and Media oversees the communication of news and information about Purdue to both internal and external audiences in print, photo and video, and via a variety of Internet platforms; branding and advertising; the Purdue Web site; and community partnerships.
This individual will work with copy editors, marketing consultants and strategic partners to review creative briefs and translate concepts to finished products. Responsibilities include leadership of overall design quality and concepts, building a pipeline of art assets in accordance with this, and most importantly, building and maintaining a design team (full-time, part-time and freelance) which optimizes creative output while meeting tight deadlines and budgets in a fast-paced environment. The design team includes graphic designers, photographers and videographers in the production of all marketing collateral.
Key Responsibilities:
· Supervise design team and foster individual development and creative collaboration.
· Research creative trends in the marketplace and apply that knowledge to the University aesthetic.
· Confer with creative, editorial, and production groups to discuss client requirements and presentation concepts and to coordinate creative activities.
· Ensure key milestones are met including Layout Review, Page Review, Sign-off, and Pages Due to Prepress.
· Oversee work of producers to increase production value of videos produced.
Minimum Candidate Qualifications:
· BFA or BA preferably in graphic design or other visual arts.
· 5 years of experience in a creative leadership role.
· Experience developing marketing collateral, publications and promotional videos.
· Strong management, teambuilding, and mentoring skills.
· Superior artistic skills.
· Expert knowledge of design related software and printing production processes.
· Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively.
