We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Generalist Technical Director to join our team in Glendale, CA.
The Technical Director will construct the geometry, articulation or surface characteristics of computer generated characters, objects, effects and/or scenes. They also maintain and support the material created. The TD will assist in creating production specific tools and processes to support development and deployment of digital models, shaders, effects and imagery. They will also be responsible for troubleshooting technical problems that arise in the production process.
Though this person will be in a generalist technical director role, they should have at least one area of specialty such as: simulation and FX; hair and cloth; shader writing; crowd simulations; lighting.
Duties:
• Work with creative and technical leads to develop digital models, shaders, effects, software, and/or imagery, as needed for the production of feature animation
• Ensure that the result functions in accordance with specifications, including, where applicable, performance, user interface, aesthetics, and robustness
• First line of support for production related issues and problem
• Review and revise the result with the Director and the creative or technical lead.
• Maintain and enhance completed results, provide technical support to users and produce author related documentation
• Work closely with Subcontractors to help deploy production techniques, tools, and pipeline, as well as troubleshoot production issues
• Help define pipeline and tools
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Digital Art, Mathmatics, Architecture, elated field or equivalent work experience
• 3+ years experience in a complex CG production environment in either CG Animation, Visual Effects or Gaming
• A good understanding of 3D computer graphics theory and practice.
• A basic understanding of composition, physical motion, weight, balance, texture and form
• Strong scripting skills in the UNIX/Linux environment, programming skills beneficia
• Solid knowledge of Mel, Python, Java
• Good written and verbal communication skills are required
• Must be able to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure
• Must be open to direction and able to embrace change
